It’s been a great year for DWC, thanks to our incredible community of supporters. We could write a paragraph about each and every one of you who contributed your time, energy, and expertise this year, but here are just a handful of the many people who went above and beyond in 2015.
Kitchen volunteer Erin O. shared her expertise and connections to help us plan our first ever Night of Comedy event, featuring Eliza Skinner, Claire Titelman, Megan Amram, Cameron Esposito, and Ron Funches!
Beyond her leadership on women’s issues and homelessness in California, Senator Holly Mitchell provided opportunities for some of our Day Center Participants to share their stories with legislators and policy-makers. She also emceed our annual Dinner With a Cause gala.

Learning Center volunteer Ilana G. did a solo hike on the John Muir Trail and asked friends and family to contribute to DWC in her honor.
Mary H. and the “Bag Hags” not only came in monthly to package and distribute snack packs, they also hold an annual event and online fundraiser to purchase bras and underwear for the women in our Day Center.
Volunteer Jay M. helped out weekly in the Day Center, the Admin Desk, and anywhere else where we needed an extra hand. She even stayed late to help us wrap hundreds of holiday gifts for our Day Center Participants and Residents.
The Striving Angels, a DWC cooking club, took over our kitchen once a month to cook a delicious meal in the Day Center. Their lunches were always a hit!
Model and advocate Tess Holliday has used her platform to spread the word about DWC, and even brought her family in to serve a meal in our Day Center on Christmas Eve.

Volunteer Lori S. used her background in Human Resources to help women craft their resumes in our Learning Center. She also volunteered weekly as a Residence Host.
Stylist Lenny Strand brought together dozens of make-up artists, hair stylists, massage therapists, and manicurists to provide a Day of Beauty for the women of DWC.

Volunteer and supporter Kim F. helped out weekly at the Admin Desk. She contributed nearly 100 hours of service this year.
Volunteer Jill Y. and friend Brooke M. coordinated with local bar Wurstkuche to host a fundraiser for DWC. They both invited tons of friends and the venue donated a portion of proceeds at the end of the night.
Dan K. and the Cooking Laboratory prepared delicious and healthy meals in our Day Center twice a month. Around the holidays they put in extra hours to help prepare Thanksgiving breakfast and wrap gifts.
Thank you to the thousands of volunteers, donors, MADE by DWC shoppers, fundraisers, social media followers, and advocates who helped make this year special. We can’t wait to see what you accomplish next year!
