Find out how you can join in our efforts by becoming an advocate for ending women's homelessness!
In the past couple of months, DWC has signed on to support important state bills that could fund and create new affordable housing for homeless women.
We are excited to see Speaker of the Assembly Toni Atkins’ affordable housing package plan (which includes AB 1335, the Building Homes and Jobs Act) move forward through the State Capitol.
DWC is also keeping a close eye on the local efforts by the Los Angeles City Council’s new Ad Hoc Committee on Homelessness. We are urging our elected officials to prioritize permanent supportive housing as a solution, and the unique needs of homeless women.
@josehuizar we are happy to be here and to see commitment on the part of the Council to addressing homelessness!— DowntownWomensCenter (@DWCweb) June 18, 2015
At the federal level, our Chief Program Officer Amy Turk traveled to Washington D.C. There, she met with key legislative staff from Senator Barbara Boxer, Senator Dianne Feinstein, and Congressmember Xavier Becerra’s offices to discuss federal funds for affordable housing and changes under the Medi-Cal 1115 Waiver to increase access to housing and supportive services to individuals who are homeless and high utilizers of emergency healthcare services.
